Cape Rozewie is a geographical phenomenon located between Jastrzębia Góra and the village of Rozewie. It is a symbolic place where our homeland meets the infinity of the Baltic Sea – a point that for years was considered the northernmost part of Poland.

Sigismund III Vasa and the Legend of the Sea Rescue

In 1592, the throne of Protestant Sweden was inherited by the fervent Catholic Sigismund III Vasa, King of Poland. A year later, he set out for the Swedish crown, which he conditionally received only in February 1594. A month later, the king returned to his homeland – and here the legend begins.

According to local legend, while returning from Sweden during stormy weather, the king was supposed to have shipwrecked on the shores of Cape Rozewie. The damaged ship and dramatic circumstances placed the monarch in mortal danger. It was local fishermen who pulled him from the sea waves, giving birth to one of the most beautiful legends of the Polish coast.

The rescued Sigismund III Vasa left the beach by the only available path – leading through the picturesque Fox Gorge (Lisi Jar). In 1932, at the entrance to this gorge, Count de Rosset erected the first seaside tourist guesthouse in Poland, "Nad Lisim Jarem," and next to it placed an obelisk commemorating the royal legend.

The monument was topped with a sculpture of an eagle soaring to the sky, which was destroyed by German occupiers in 1939. Only half a century later, in May 1996, a new eagle sculpture was once again placed atop the column, restoring the full majesty to this historic site.
