Nordic Walking is a wonderfully versatile sport you can practice virtually anywhere. And that’s exactly why we love it!

Still, you’ll probably agree that walking with poles is best in nature, especially in the forest.

And those of you planning to “build your legs” with poles will appreciate morning workouts on the beach—wide, empty, and perfect for moving meditation and peace.

We boldly claim that the area around Jastrzębia Góra is one of the best places for Nordic Walking on the entire Polish coast! Cliffs, beech gorges, pine forests and kilometres of wide beach.

In this article, you’ll learn:

  • how Nordic Walking affects the body and mind,

  • which routes from our guide we like most and why,

  • how difficult each route is and who it’s best for

How Nordic Walking affects body and mind

In short, Nordic Walking poles help us increase the quality and range of movement at the same intensity. A better workout, with the same effort.

Full-body workout

When walking with poles, you work not only your legs but also your arms, back and abdomen. In a University of Bath study, walking with poles burned around 20% more calories than walking normally at the same pace, while participants didn’t feel they were working harder.

Posture workout

Proper technique straightens your posture and opens your chest, which is especially appreciated by the spines of those of us who work at a desk. Poles also provide extra points of support, making you feel more confident on sand, roots and forest climbs. You don’t need an athlete’s fitness to get a good workout in beautiful surroundings!

Mindfulness workout

Rhythmic walking calms you and helps you leave everyday worries behind. Walking with Nordic Walking poles is moving meditation, often mentioned in connection with the popular mindfulness trend. And by the sea, everything seems to have a stronger effect, as we wrote in our article about thalassotherapy.

Our favourite Nordic Walking routes

Our guide features a dozen or so Nordic Walking routes. Some start right outside the door of Pilice Apartments; others are a short drive away. Here are our five favourites, ranging from a peaceful stroll to a proper workout.

1. Rozewie Cape Nature Reserve

A wooded, spectacular stretch right by the Rozewie lighthouse, just a few minutes’ walk from the apartments. The soft, leafy ground absorbs the impact of the poles beautifully, so you can focus fully on your technique.

  • Our tip: take the gorge steps down to the beach and walk along the concrete strip at the foot of the cliff, right beside the waves.

  • Difficulty: easy · 3.3 km · approx. 45 min

  • Best for: beginners and families with children (including running strollers)

2. The Magic of Lisi Jar

A short but highly rewarding walk that provides a solid workout on the climbs. The gorge is shaded by magnificent beech trees, offering shelter from the summer heat and a fairytale setting in autumn.

  • Our tip: put rubber tips on your poles on paved sections, then remove them in the gorge for better push-off from the forest floor.

  • Difficulty: easy, with a few short climbs · 5.5 km · approx. 1 hr 15 min

  • Best for: families with children and anyone who wants to work up a sweat without covering great distances. Due to the terrain, we don’t recommend it with a stroller.

3. Chłapowski Gorge

An exceptionally varied glacial valley whose picturesque channel leads all the way to the Baltic Sea. Steps, boulders and rare vegetation await along the way, so boredom is out of the question. In spring and early summer, broom blooms here, turning the entire gorge yellow.

  • Difficulty: easy · 4.2 km · approx. 1 hr

  • Best for: landscape and photography lovers, families with children, and anyone who likes a route ending with a sea view.

4. Along the beach to Karwia and back through the forest

A classic interval workout with a seaside twist. One way, you walk along the beach on soft sand, engaging your whole body and raising your heart rate. The return along a firm path through the pine forest is pure relaxation—and a chance to lengthen your stride.

  • Difficulty: moderate to difficult · 13.6 km · approx. 3 hrs

  • Best for: people in good shape and those looking for a real challenge. Older children can manage it if they enjoy long outings.

5. Beka Nature Reserve

Flat, expansive salt meadows by Puck Bay create the illusion of walking at the end of the world. With no elevation changes, you can maintain a long, athletic stride at an even pace. Beka is famous for its huge number of wading birds, so bring binoculars and plan a break by the observation towers.

  • Difficulty: easy · 4.5 km · approx. 1 hr · starts after a short drive

  • Best for: nature and birdwatching enthusiasts, families with children (including running strollers), and anyone wanting to work on maintaining an even walking pace.
